This past Monday, January 15, we had a Maker Monday Meetup which is now scheduled for every 2nd Monday of the month. Initially I put something out on Meetup.com and I decided that I would just see how things play out and hopefully we would get more than 10 people. Now, this is the first Maker Monday Meetup that we have done since we have opened our doors for business. I used to host a meetup like this before we acquired this space, but now that the doors are open I decided to start back up with a regular monthly meeting at the Makerspace.
Anyway, people started showing up right on time and they were mingling and talking a little bit, and as I was talking to people I was just looking around to get a rough idea of how many people decided to show up. Turns out we had about 35-40 people show up for our first meeting of the year, and the first meeting like this in the Makerspace. I was blown out of the water with gratitude and joy. My first thought was "I am definitely doing this again!"
I talked for a few minutes about the vision and mission of the Makerspace and then we went around the room and introduced ourselves. I wanted everyone to tell a couple things about themselves like what they like to make and what they wanted to learn. This was enough information to draw people together into like-mindedness.
Needless to say, I am very excited about our February meeting coming up on 2/12 at 7pm. If you are reading this and you live in the area, you should think about coming out to the meeting. You will not regret it.
And I just want to say thank you to all the people who came and participated in this meetup. You all know who you are, and you are the ones who make places like this thrive. I am looking forward to all of our upcoming meetings.
Until then, adios...
